Memorial Hut Rates

Memorial Hut is a gateway to the wide range of experiences that the Tongariro National Park has to offer, both winter and summer.

For safety reasons, bookings must be for the entire Hut (not per room) with one group using the hut at any one time.

Groups using the Hut must comply with the Covid19 requirements relevant to their sector and public health notices. Note that the Department of Conservation requires anyone using DoC facilities (e.g. toilets, visitors centers) to be fully vaccinated for Covid 19.

You are responsible for your own food, cooking and cleaning the lodge on your departure.

Rates from 1 January 2022 have been set as follows:

  • $400/night + GST for CPSACT member schools and staff
  • $500/night + GST for other Taupo District school
  • $600/night + GST for schools outside the Taupo district
  • $1000/night + GST for non-school users

To utilise the school rate all bookings must be made by a current school employee through an official school email address.

Booking preference will be given to stakeholder schools. If there is time available after the stakeholder school bookings are made, the booking system can be open to the public.

Cleaning gear, cooking, crockery and cutlery are provided in the Hut. Rubbish and all food must be removed when you leave. Don't forget toilet paper for your group - leaves are scarse at altitude!

A cleaning fee of $500 will be charged if the facility is not left in a clean and tidy way.

Please note that Mt Ruapehu is an active volcano that rumbles on occasion. Advice on the current alert level for the maunga can be found on the Department of Conservation website or www.geonet.org.nz. Under alert Level 2 (alert level as at June 2022) the summit plateau and 3km radius around the crater lake are out of bounds but the rest of the mountain is open.  The Hut is 5km from the crater lake and is located in a low risk area for eruptions and lahars.
